The Department of Geography and Earth Sciences at UNC Charlotte focuses its teaching and research programs in the study of Human Systems, Earth Systems Science and Geographic Information Science and Technologies. While each of these thematic areas represents distinct faculty expertise, there are considerable opportunities for multidisciplinary learning and research. The Department houses programs leading to degrees in the following areas: Geography, Earth Sciences, Geology and Meteorology.

• The department of Geography and Earth Sciences would like to welcome Dr. Manda Adams to the university. Dr. Adams comes to us from the University of Calgary and will be starting in the fall.

• The department would like to congratulate Dr. Craig Allan on his appointment as Chair of the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences effective July 1, 2009. We would also like to thank Dr. Charles Brody for serving as interim Chair for the 2008-2009 academic year.

• The department is also pleased to announce that Dr. Andy Bobyarchick will be assuming the duties of the MS Earth Sciences Graduate Program Coordinator effective July 1, 2009.
