Soils Laboratory

The G&ES Soils Lab is run by Dr. M.C. Eppes of the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences at UNC Charlotte. The lab is employed for classwork and for research by students, faculty members throughout UNC Charlotte, and by external clients from Charlotte and beyond. The lab is equipped to handle a variety of basic soil and sediment analyses including particle size, pH, soluble salts by electrical conductivity, CaCO3 analysis by Chittick, Fe extractions and ion-specific analyses of various cations. In addition, we operate a Micromeritics Sedigraph 5100 which analyzes soil and water samples for particle size. Output is a continuous particle size distribution curve for 300 micron and smaller diameter particles. Anyone interested in conducting soil or sediment analyses in the G&ES Soils Lab should contact Dr. Eppes.
