Welcome to the website for the Ph.D. program in geography and
urban regional analysis at the University of North Carolina at
Charlotte. Our doctoral program is new. Indeed, it was approved
in May 2006 and we admitted nine students for the Fall semester,
2006.
Our program is positioned in a growing, applied-oriented, research
university, situated in one of the nation’s most dynamic
urban regions. Intentionally, we have focused our doctoral studies
around the intersection of geographic information science and
urban-metropolitan processes. As you review the website, we hope
that you will gain a fuller understanding of the objectives and
framework for this program; the wide array of facilities and technologies
available to students; and, who we are and our interests as a
graduate faculty.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me or any other geography
faculty member if you have any questions about the Ph.D. program
in geography and urban regional analysis at UNC Charlotte. As
you make your plans for doctoral work, we hope that you will consider
our program.
Best wishes,
Owen J. Furuseth, Ph.D., AICP
Director, Ph.D. Program in Geography and
Urban Regional Analysis
